Do you know who you are going to vote for in the forthcoming General Election??

Voting apathy is at an all time high at the moment, especially within the student community. Over the past few years we have seen the direct impact that governmental decisions have had on us, the public. These decisions have brought about an economic downturn, job losses, a rise in the cost of education and millions of pounds ploughed into war where soldiers have lost their lives. These are but a few areas where our elected members of parliament debate and make decisions on behalf of us, the public.

Many students often take the naïve approach to elections and have a ‘it doesn’t matter if I vote or not’ attitude, presuming that it won’t affect you… WELL IT DOES! For the majority of you, you only need to take a look at the debt you are accumulating; which was a direct consequence of a government decision and their policies.

If you want to ensure you are not on the negative receiving end of a government decision again, get involved and make your vote count in the general election.

To ensure you are eligible to vote choose one of the following:

1. Register to Vote

The Executive Committee will be on hand to show you having to sign up to the electoral register, ensuring your vote.

UCO – Tuesday 2nd to Thursday 4th February

HUDDERSFIELD – Tuesday 9th to Thursday 11th February

UCB – Tuesday 23rd to Thursday 25th February

2. Question Time

Do you know that if all students used their vote effectively it could make a difference between parties in the General Elections??
This is your perfect opportunity to put questions to the candidates and decide who gets your all important vote.

Invited guests include members of each major political party: Labour Conservatives Liberal Democrats Green Party plus NUS and Independent’s

UCO – Friday 5th February at 3pm (SG1/1a)

HUDDERSFIELD – Friday 12th February at 1pm (Quayside)

UCB – Friday 26th February, 3pm (3/07)

3. Register online

Visit www.aboutmyvote.co.uk and follow the instructions for Students.
Follow the simple steps to fill in the registration form online, print it off and return it to the Electoral Registration Officer at your term time local council – it’s that easy!
