A Student Rep is any student who has been elected by their peers to represent their views to the University. Students’ Union officers, Student Council members and Hall Reps could all be classed as Student Reps. However, the term is most commonly used to describe the very important role of the Course Rep. Any student can put themselves forward to be a Course Rep.
Course Reps have responsibility for communicating the views of the students on their course to the University. Typically, this may involve lobbying for better library resources or bringing unsatisfactory assessment and feedback to the attention of the University. Equally, a Course Rep should acknowledge any area in which their course has been particularly good. It is the job of a Course Rep to gather opinion, communicate this to the University, and then communicate the outcome back to the students.
Student representation is important not only for students but for the University of Huddersfield also. Student Reps are the people who stand up and engage in debate on your Student Panels. They are the focal point for information and expressing student views and concerns on how your course is being delivered, the quality of the course and where they think it can be improved.
The Student Rep Programme at the University of Huddersfield has recently undergone some major changes, including a re-development of the training and support programme offered to student reps by the Students' Union, and the creation of the iZone department in the Students' Union which serves as the main point of contact between Course Reps and the Union. Plans for this page include a Course Rep database and on-line resources to assist reps in their role. Any enquiries should be directed either to:
